Grow the assets to grow the people

At Tainui Group Holdings Limited (TGH), we are responsible for managing the commercial assets of Waikato-Tainui.  Guided by the principles of Kiingitanga, we support the prosperity of the people of Waikato Tainui by building financial resilience for current and future generations.

Our new Dairy & Operations Manager, based in Hamilton and working across the Waikato region, will lead and oversee the financial and operational excellence of our dairy farms and dairy support whenua (land), delivering outcomes in line with our Whakatupuranga 2050 tribal aspirations:

  • Ngaa Tohu Taiao – Environmental Signpost
  • Ngaa Tohu Hapori – Social Signpost
  • Ngaa Tohu Kaupapa – Cultural Signpost
  • Ngaa Tohu Whai Rawa – Commercial Signpost

If these aspirations are also part of your journey, then read on because this new role could be the opportunity that springboards your professional farming career to the next level.

With three contract-milked dairy farms, one dairy support block and 3 maize support blocks to manage, this role is a key driver of performance outcomes from our whenua.

With a total of four direct reports the role has been deliberately structured to ensure there is time to focus on getting the right things done which includes supporting the development of our people, looking after our whenua and providing the direction and support that will deliver optimal results from these farming businesses.

With a total land area of 890 hectares, 1560 cows, $25m in assets and lease land, this is a great first or second step operations manager role, ideal for someone with strong technical skills who can appropriately support our contract milking business partners.  In short, you’ll be the kaitiaki (guardian) of Waikato Tainui assets in these important relationships for the business.

With great support from the Head of Farms and Forestry and a strong commercial team, this role also has the scope to investigate the best use of our farming land resources and make recommendations that could influence the strategic direction of the business.

Needless to say, the successful applicant will have a strong dairy background, including contract milking experience and will have the leadership mana to successfully work together with our contract milking partners and other internal and external stakeholders.

We work together as a whaanau at TGH, which means being ‘whaanau fit’ is equally important. We have a strong values-based culture with dedicated, resilient kaimahi who understand what it means to manaaki (care) and to be the kaitiaki that provides economic wealth for our iwi.  Learning and understanding Waikato Tainui whakapapa and tikanga, whilst working in a fast-paced environment, is a normal part of our day to day mahi (work). Living the values of the iwi in a commercially viable business is a foundational requirement for success.

He rite kia koe? (Sound like you?)
